The thickness and price of HDMI cables often makes them difficult to work with in long distance situations. The HDMI over Dual Cat 5/6 Extender is an easy and often, more cost effective solution - using 2 x runs of inexpensive network cabling to transmit HDMI + IR up to 50m* without any quality loss.
The Extenders use powerful HDMI signal processors so the user can enjoy the latest HDMI 1.4 video features, including Sky 3D and 3-D Blu-ray. HDMI video and audio quality is exactly as using a direct HDMI cable are the conversion is fully digital and totally lossless.
Cat5/6* cable is relatively thin and flexible making it easier to feed around a property. It can be purchased on long reels so you can cut a length exactly for your individual requirements to be terminated with an RJ-45 crimping tool. Alternatively ‘pre-terminated’ fixed length Cat 6 cables can be easily purchased online.
The kit comprises of a Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) sometimes referred to as ‘baluns’. The TX transmits HDMI over the 2 x LAN cables (up to 50m) to the RX located at the HDTV. Control of all the source functions (such as pause, rewind etc) is possible via an infrared (IR) ‘magic eye’ connected to the RX. This ‘sees’ the remote control signals and sends them back to TX, where a transmitter ‘blasts’ them out at the source. To neaten your install, the units can be wall or TV mounted using the supplied mounting brackets.
*HDconnectivity recommends using good quality (solid, not stranded 'patch') Cat6 cabling for best performance. Cat5e cabling can be used, but the achievable transmission distances will be reduced by roughly 20%.
